3. How To Use Two GripBeats® Device: One Chords & One EQ
Introduction
With two GripBeats® it is actually very possible to use one as a controller of chords, and the other as a controller for the EQ. What this essentially means is that you can play chord sequences with one hand while the other hand gently interacts with its sound effects. Read and/or watch through the following tutorial to see how you can recreate this at home also!

Mapping Parameters to the first GripBeats® Device (the GripBeats® Desktop App-Flashed GripBeats® Device)
- Open up the GripBeats® Desktop App and Connect your GripBeats® (tutorial for Mac here).
- Open up your DAW, in this case Ableton, create a new MIDI track, and open up the MIDI Mapping dialogue or press command-M (for Mac).
- Click on the respective component on Ableton which you would like to map to your GripBeats® device, for example, "EQ" if you choose the Instrument Ethereal Bells.
- Mute all other parameters on the GripBeats® Desktop App in order to isolate the specific output that you would like to use for control for e.g. the Roll gyroscope.
- After successfully mapping your parameter you should now be able to control the respective Ableton component using the respective parameter control of the GripBeats® device.
Connecting the second GripBeats® (the one playing chords, in this case, the one flashed with the CHARLIE Patch found here)
- Turn on and connect your second GripBeats® device (using Audio MIDI Setup like before here).
- Go to MIDI Input on your MIDI track on Ableton and select the respective GripBeats®, typically called "GripBeats® #2 Bluetooth" or similar.
- You should now be able to play chords using the second GripBeats® on the MIDI track's sounds while using the second GripBeats® device to change the EQ or whichever respective sound effect control you mapped it to above.
Recalibrating your GripBeats® device if it is necessary
- Recalibrate both of your GripBeats® devices by holding them in their worn position and clicking and holding the power buttons for two pulses and then releasing (can be done separately) before they vibrate with a heartbeat to confirm the completion of the calibration.
